HOW CAN LIFE COACHING HELP YOU PRACTICALLY?

Life Coaching can help you discover clear pathways where you were seeing nothing but a dead-end before. It can help you organize and succeed with your personal goals.  It can help you identify your options. It can help you clarify your purpose and decide what you should do to get there according to your personality type and your life conditioning. It can help you overcome the obstacles you face and pursue what you desire: a specific job, a relationship or the life of your dreams.

WHAT DO PEOPLE OFTEN LOOK FOR IN A LIFE COACH?

People who contact a life coach often look for guidance. But Life Coaching is not about guidance because no one can be more expert for your own life than yourself. Life Coaching can help you highlight and experience in the most successful way that you are the expert you were looking for and that you can count on you anytime for any issue you have. People initially approach Life Coaching for “guidance” but they often discover the best version of themselves.

WHO MAY SEEK HELP FROM A LIFE COACH?

Every person can seek help from a life coach, for any issue they face. The coach is able to verify very soon if they can help in this specific case and they will act accordingly. Not all professionals are experts in all subjects and a life coach might not have expertise in all areas of coaching. Furthermore, a person might need to receive some kind of help beyond the Life Coaching approach.

WHERE IS LIFE COACHING BASED ON?

Life Coaching is based on the simple insight that every person is mainly the expert for their own life, and that they hold all the answers they anticipate for any issue inside them. The coach can help the client to discover these answers and to connect with their deepest self.

HOW LIFE COACHING IS CONDUCTED?

Life Coaching uses different means depending on the way it is conducted. In workshops, for example, Life Coaching includes some kind of speech or presentation (visual, auditory, kinesthetic etc). In private sessions, Life Coaching may include conversation or interview with the client. Nevertheless, in any case the life coach uses just one basic tool: question. The life coach never assumes that “this or that actually happens” but they ask their client or their audience “what is happening?” so as to get their answer. Since each one of us is mainly the expert for our own life, the Life Coaching process is based on this approach.

IN WHAT WAY CAN LIFE COACHING CHANGE YOUR LIFE?

Life Coaching changes your life because you are occupied with changing your life in a systematic way and by seeking and receiving professional help. Through the coaching process and the tools used in Life Coaching a person can see more clearly and overcome any obstacles while improving their strengths. Life Coaching can be the source through which you can shine and illuminate the areas that have been previously out of your sight. Because when you focus on improving your life this is exactly what you achieve.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LIFE COACH AND THE APPROACH OF THE PSYCHOLOGIST OR PSYCHOTHERAPIST?

The approach of the life coach differs from the approach of the psychologist or the psychotherapist in the following:

  • The life coach is not the expert to work with past psychological trauma cases. If the specific person needs therapy or psychological treatment, the life coach will not replace the aforementioned specialty.

  • The life coach deals with past cases (as needed) until the blockages are revealed and beliefs are discovered. Also, the life coach can help the client to overcome these blockages and beliefs so that they are able to go on and pursue their future goals.

  • The life coach is the expert who can help the client identify and clarify their goals.

  • The life coach is the expert who can help the client organize their thoughts around goal and goal setting and what they can do to achieve them (next steps).

  • The life coach is the expert who can help the client believe in them so that they can reach their goals successfully.

HOW DOES THE LIFE COACH INTERVENE IN YOUR LIFE?

The coach does not intervene in your life. The coach does not guide you. They listen to you so that they understand what you are saying, your problems, your issues, your obstacles, your dreams and they work with professional tools so that they take out the solution/outcome/action that works for you uniquely; what is suitable and right for you at this specific time in your life so that you choose to act in the next step. The coach will not intervene and they will follow your own pace. What make the difference (from doing it all alone) is that working with the coach you speed up the results; you are accountable to someone for your actions; you are working with an expert in improving your life so that you clearly see what you can do next; you build your confidence on the fact that you spend your resources (time, money, energy) correctly and that you are on track.

WHY SHOULD A LIFE COACH BE GREATLY EXPERIENCED?

The life coach should be greatly experienced. This means that they should have been through most of what they help and coach someone else. Experience allows “for (more) giving”; as much as giving as possible. The greater the life coach’s experience the greater the for-giving. “For-give” means to allow more – to include more. I for-give because I understand and have compassion. In this context, compassion does not mean “to feel sorry” for someone but to have empathy and feel that someone understands you. Not all people are at same level of consciousness, which is their level of awareness deriving from what they feel, what they are, what they do. And at the end of the day what matters most is not what we do or not but to be peacefully engaged to ourselves and our world around us. The life coach’s experience is vital in order to be in the position to accept the client as they are exactly in every moment in time and not according to the coach’s expectation of what the client should be or should be doing ideally. In this way “compassion” completes our imperfect human nature and in the basis of this compassion and love the client is getting ready to flourish and grow.
